Better Bikeshare Partnership

Better Bikeshare Partnership

In partnership with the City of Raleigh and Bewegen (“Citrix Cycle”) Oaks and Spokes is proud to announce that we will be working with the Better Bikeshare Partnership this Summer and Fall to accelerate our work to increase access to our bikeshare program for all Raleigh residents. Specifically, our project will be identifying strategies to increase utilization of our bikeshare system for residents ages 55 and up and will also assess how to bring bikeshare to more households through amplification of the “Access Pass” program. The Access Pass through Citrix Cycle focuses on providing a low-cost pass ($10 per year) for both cost burdened households and adults that are eligible for other programs, such as Social Security benefits.

When assessing who currently has access to and utilizes our bikeshare system, there was a noticeable gap for adults above the age of 55, which our programming hopes to help address and reconcile. We will be using this funding throughout the summer and fall of 2021 to conduct a targeted campaign to increase bikeshare utilization for this targeted demographic. Staff will work closely with the regional AARP office to enhance programming and conduct focused outreach and promotion. Funding will also help to pay for a marketing position to amplify this effort. We have hired a young woman that is a recent HBCU graduate and lifelong Raleigh resident to help us achieve these goals.

Through September, Oaks and Spokes and Citrix Cycle will be conducting events that meet people where they are at. From the Farmer’s Market to the Walnut Creek Wetland Center, our team will be out in force and can’t wait to provide more access and opportunity for transportation options to everyone in our community. Staff will be seeking intentional partnerships with regional entities to help reach as many households as possible.
