Cranksgiving 2020

Cranksgiving 2020

Friends on bikes, it’s that time of year again — time for our annual bike powered food drive, Cranksgiving! Time to pedal from grocery store to grocery store, collecting pounds of food for donation, bringing cheer to many a Thanksgiving table.

We don’t believe hosting a traditional Cranksgiving contest would be wise right now because of the still-rising COVID-19 case numbers. But even though we have to skip the zany missions and silly bicycle camaraderie, we still want to contribute to the Thanksgiving Feasts of folks in our city who don’t have food security. Especially in 2020.

So the plan is simple. Please bring your donations to the Raleigh Rescue Mission at 314 East Hargett Street

We’re doing a socially distanced version this year so the plan is simple. Please bring your donations to the Raleigh Rescue Mission at 314 East Hargett Street.

Go to the front desk and let them know you’re there to donate for Cranksgiving. They will open the gate for you to drop off your donations.

We are accepting drop offs on three different days:

Friday, November 20th, from 3pm to 6pm,
Saturday, November 21st, from 10am to 1pm, and
Sunday, November 22nd, from 3pm to 6pm.

As usual, we’ll be weighing everything people contribute. And as added incentive, Oaks & Spokes will match your donations to Raleigh Rescue Mission dollar for pound for the first 500 pounds.

This year, Raleigh Rescue Mission especially needs:

  • Turkeys
  • Canned Green Beans
  • Canned Cranberry Sauce

Other important needs are:

  • Hygiene & Medication Items – lotion, deodorant, chapstick, shampoo, conditioner, ibuprofen, Tylenol, Kleenex
  • Clothing – underwear (especially larger sizes), shower shoes, baby & toddler shoes
  • Nonperishable Food Items – Breakfast items (individual cereals, granola bars, etc.), snack foods (packaged crackers, chips, etc.), bottled water

If you are unable to participate in the ride this year, please consider donating directly through https://www.raleighrescue.org/.

We hope that next year we’ll host a glorious, extravagant Cranksgiving. We’ll really outdo ourselves. This year, well, we still really hope you’ll get out there on your bike and gather some delicious foods and other essential items to contribute to a very worthy cause. As always, Thank you for riding your bike.
