Grassroots bicycle festival returns for second year of fun and festivities

Raleigh, NC – The second annual Oaks & Spokes Bicycle Festival will take place in Raleigh from April 4-13. The Festival will include events like the  popular Triangle Tweed Ride, a bike-in movie, bicycle scavenger hunt, as well as a variety of other cycling events that foster community engagement. The events are spread across several downtown Raleigh venues.

“The Oaks & Spokes Bicycle Festival brings together a diverse group of cyclists. It encourages the growth of Raleigh’s cycling community by offering events that are geared towards cycling as an activity as opposed to cycling for sport,” said Kristy Jackson, co-founder of Oaks & Spokes. “Our schedule and support has grown from last year and will appeal to families, young professionals and students. Bicycling isn’t just for enthusiasts, it’s for everyone.”

The festival kicks off on First Friday, April 4 with Bike First Friday, where riders meet at the North Carolina State University Belltower. The ride showcases art and nightlife in downtown Raleigh, including the Raleigh Bikes Art Show in City Market.

On April 5, day two of the festival, NCSU Wolfpack Environmental Student Association hosts the WESAcat, a downtown Raleigh scavenger hunt that participants complete by bike.  The Triangle Tweed Ride occurs April 6, where vintage fashion, picnics, and a slow cruise around the historic neighborhoods of Raleigh are all on the docket.

The full 10 day schedule of events is available online and also includes a social bike ride, bicycle maintenance event for charity, a public forum with city officials to share ideas about shaping the future of bicycling in Raleigh, Kidical Mass ride geared toward children, bike polo tournament, bike parts swap, and more.
